The Sweden Comprehensive Plan Committee is currently working on an update. To assist in this task, a survey was sent out to all property owners in December 2021. View the results of the survey below.

Using Town records, information provided by the State and other resources, the Comprehensive Planning Provides an inventory/analysis/findings of town historical data, demographics, natural resources, land use, economics, and public facilities and services;

  • Population and Demographics
  • Economy
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Recreation
  • Water Resources
  • Critical Natural Resources
  • Historical and Archaeological Resources
  • Agriculture and Forestry Resources
  • Public Facilities and Services
  • Fiscal Capacity and Capital Investment Plan Land Use


Specific Components are required for each subsection, along with a State required list of policies and strategies intended to address state goals.

Input from citizens, the citizen survey, other board and committee members, municipal officials, and governmental and non-governmental organizations such as Lakes Environmental Association and Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission are used to guide the Vision Statement, analyses, policies, and strategies.
