Emergency and Town Messaging Sign Up
In an effort to keep Sweden residents and seasonal visitors as up to date as possible, we have multiple ways to keep in touch. We encourage all to register phone numbers for Emergency Alerts and Messaging, and subscribe to the Town Email list. The Sweden Fire Department also participates in Neighbors by Ring, a phone app alert system.
* You may register as many phone numbers as you like, but it is essential that you specify if the number is a landline phone, or a mobile phone. Please include the area code. To register multiple numbers, complete the form and hit “submit”. Refresh the page which will clear the fields, and enter the next phone number to be registered.
Sweden has implemented a new phone number messaging alert system. Recent winter storms have shown that we need to find more effective ways of reacting out to communicate with residents, as it is not uncommon for power outages, landline phone outages, internet outages, and poor cell reception to occur, often for days on end. The town will use the messaging system in the following ways:
- Alert residents to dangerous road or weather conditions
- General notices/reminders with times and dates of town meetings
- Alert residents about downed power lines to avoid
- During widespread power outages, inform residents where to go to warm up, recharge devices, and get assistance
- General notices/reminders about town municipal meetings, deadlines, voting hours, and community events
By registering either your landline phone number or your mobile number, you agree to receive messages from the town, and you may unsubscribe/remove your number from the list at any time. Landlines will receive recorded phone calls, and if an answering machine picks up, a message will be left. On a mobile phone, messages will be sent via text message.
*The Town of Sweden will never share your personal information or phone number with any other company.
We send out notices of special hearings and Town meetings, events, general news, and updates.
By subscribing to this list, you agree to receive email from the town, and you may unsubscribe/remove your address from the list at any time.
*The Town of Sweden will never share your personal information or email address with any other company.
Did you know there is a Sweden Maine Community Facebook page? This Facebook group was created to support our unique, rural community with local information and general discussion. Connect with your neighbors, get involved in historical preservation or local government, post items for sale or trade, share photos you’ve taken, ask questions or ask for suggestions from the community, and find details about local events. To check it out and/or to sign up, visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/swedenmaine
*This is a community group and is not affiliated with the Sweden municipal town office.
The Sweden Volunteer Fire Department has joined Neighbors by Ring, and you can sign up to get emergency alerts from the Fire Department, even if you do not own a Ring doorbell or security device. Alerts will be sent to your mobile device. Instructions below on how to download the app, or print out instructions.
If you already have a Ring device and have opted in for neighborhood alerts, you will automatically receive notices, no need to download the “Join Neighbors” app. For learn more information about this program, visit Ring Neighbors.
